TotR: Warm Weather Running Gear

In Florida, summer has settled in full blast with the blazing sun, heat and humidity.  Every year I forget how tough it is to acclimate to running in the heat.  Here are a few items that make running in the Florida heat more bearable: Cocogo – I’ve tried several of the electrolyte tablets and solutions and Cocogo is the one that seems to work best for me.  It’s made from coconut water and freeze-dried fruit … Continue reading

Friday Five: Five Things I Always Run With

Another Friday has rolled around and I’m happy to be linking up with the DC-trio, Cynthia at You Signed Up for What, Mar at Mar on the Run and Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC.  Today is a “Free Friday” which means any topic is fine as long as it uses the “five” format.  It’s been a while since I did a favorite running thing post, so it seemed like a good topic for this … Continue reading

RoadID – Be Safe Out There

As a worrier, sometimes it is tempting to try to stay safe all the time, but that’s not possible (you never know where a meteor is going to land, right?) and it’s really no way to enjoy life.  Risk is out there, you just have to be smart. Running outside is not as safe as indoor running, but it sure is a lot more fun.  If I had to do my running on a treadmill, … Continue reading

Shopping Guide for Runners – Favorite Things Edition

I’ve got good news and bad news.  The bad news is that if you’ve got Christmas shopping to do, time is quickly running out.  The good news is that there’s lots of speedy shipping options and I’ve got a great list of my favorite things for runners. SparkleSkirts – you can’t go wrong with a sparkletech.  Guys can wear them (or the sparkle bottoms if they’re less in touch with their feminine sides) and I … Continue reading

Allons-y!

I’m postponing my normal Friday update so I can share some exciting (to me) news.  This week I’ve had a lot of challenges including working three-three-three-jobs-in-one and a week long literal pain in the neck that sidelined me from running.  You may recall my personal pity party earlier this week which detailed these things.  And my two year old sprained his ankle and got sick.  Fun times. Despite all of this, I consider this an … Continue reading

Favorite Things – Fitbit Flex

I’ve been debating this purchase for months and I finally broke down and got a FitBit Flex a few weeks ago.  I got it from Amazon.com and chose the slate/blue color. The FitBit Flex comes with two wristbands, one large and one small.  I’m using the small one, but it’s on the second and third from the last holes.  The large one fits too, on the smallest holes.  The actual device is very small, about … Continue reading

Supplements

If you haven’t figured it out by now, I’m kind of a free-spirit hippie in my off hours.  I’m a CPA, so at work I try to look professional with dressy clothes and makeup but when I’m not working I’m all about crystal deodorant, birkenstocks, and hugging the occasional tree.  I guess that’s my way of saying I’m pretty open minded about alternative medicine and non-traditional approaches to things. There is a lot of controversy … Continue reading

100th Post – Favorite Things Giveaway!

Happy 100th Post to Me!  In honor of this milestone, I’m giving away TWO prize packs with some of my favorite things in them (sorry Sparkletechs are too expensive to put in the giveaway though!). So, I may not be in Disneyland doing the Dumbo Double Dare this weekend, but I can still celebrate. Each of the TWO prize packs will include: A roll of Rock Tape (dalmation/cow print) A pack of Honey Stinger Gummies … Continue reading

Favorite Things Friday – Blue Lizard Sunscreen

I’ve lived in Florida my whole life, so you’re probably guessing I’ve got an awesome tan.  Um.  Nope, I may live in a subtropical zone, but my genetics are from Northern Europe somewhere.  Perhaps if my freckles all merged eventually, I might look tan, but really I just have very pale skin that is either pale with freckles or bright red with freckles  Not much in between for me. Therefore, I have learned early and … Continue reading

Favorite Things Friday – The Stick

I’ve posted about using foam rollers for injury treatment and prevention.  I’ve found that although foam rolling hurts a lot sometimes it is really effective for my back, hips, quads and hamstrings.  With my recent achilles injury, I’ve tried to use the foam roller on my calves without much success.  It’s just really hard for me to get the right level of pressure on the right spots. When I went into the running store to … Continue reading
