Trail of Payne 10k 2015 Race Recap

When I looked at my race schedule for this spring I was excited to put on the Trail of Payne 10k trail run.  It is a local and very low priced race and it’s a 10k which is my favorite race distance.  It was just two weeks after the Asheville Half Marathon so I figured I’d be all trained up and super fast.  Unfortunately, after my repeated bouts with the Plague-2014 and Plague-2015 and Gainesville-Crud … Continue reading

TotR: Asheville Half Marathon Recap

Our Saint Patrick’s Day episode of Tuesdays on the Run with Patty from My No-Guilt Life and Erika from MCM Mama Runs and yours truly brings you the timely topic of race lucky charms and rituals.  My pre-race ritual consists of getting nervous and pacing a lot.  Maybe I need a good luck ritual or lucky charm to give me pre-race confidence, so share yours! In the mean time, I wanted to share my race … Continue reading

Gasparilla 8k Race Recap

When last we left this story, I’d run a 15k at a decent pace and then walked 11 more miles at Walt Disney World Resort before coming back to the hotel to get a nap before the Gasparilla 8k.  My legs hurt, my feet hurt and I was exhausted but I’d had a great day! Let’s back up in time a little for some history on this race.  Back in May, Erik and I ran … Continue reading

Gasparilla 15k Race Recap – Picking Pirates over Princesses

I’ve run the Princess Half races the last two years and had tons of fun, but this year I decided to head a little further west to run the pirate races instead at the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic series in Tampa.  This series offers four races over two days and three different challenge options to choose from.  The Ultra Challenge has some amazing medals, but requires you to run back to back races both mornings … Continue reading

runDisney WDW 10k Race Recap

Last spring, I was heavy into speed work, eating healthy, strength training and set a huge goal for the WDW 10k race.  I decided to “just” register for the 10k (we need a better word for that, “just” and “only” sound so negative and dismissive) because I wanted to run it FAST.  If you are a regular reader, you know that my summer did not work out as expected and my weight went up and … Continue reading

Melon Run 3 Miler Race Recap

I’m not sure why they are such a tradition, but 4th of July runs are a staple event despite the inevitable heat and humidity.  Locally, our July 4th race is the Melon Run 3 Miler.  Today was the 36th annual running of this race.  I think because it’s such a tradition it really draws out a lot of runners, and a lot of those runners are really FAST!  This is my fourth running of this … Continue reading

Race Recap: Expedition Everest Challenge 2014 Part 2

In part 1 of this recap (click here if you missed it) I detailed the Expo, pre-race and the 5k portion of the race.  Here’s the rest of the story for the scavenger hunt and the post-race party. So, after finishing the 5k portion of the race, we ended up back in the Animal Kingdom parking lot where we were given our first clue and a cute little key chain with a flashlight and a … Continue reading

Race Recap: Expedition Everest Challenge 2014 Part 1

This was my second running of runDisney’s Expedition Everest Challenge.  Last year (see recap here) I ran on a team with my teenage son.  We had a great time, but he decided to retire from take a break from running.  This year, I ran it on a team with my husband, Erik.  It was his first race which was pretty exciting! Because we’re being “fiscally responsible” we let our Disney annual passes expire and our … Continue reading

Race Recap: 1st Annual Gator MBA 5k

I usually have my races planned out months in advance, so the fact that I signed up for this morning’s race less than 36 hours before the start was a first for me.  The race was held on the University of Florida campus where I spent five years getting my Masters of Accounting degree and where I worked for a year and a half.   Go Gators!!I missed my three mile tempo run because of the … Continue reading

Race Recap Flatwoods 5k at Austin Cary Forest

It has been months and months since my last local race, the Healthy Hearts 5k in September.  While big races have their own challenges (longer distance runs, transportation issues, expos), smaller local races cause me a different kind of anxiety.  I live in a college town and the runners who live here are fast.  So although I finish in the top 30% of big races, I often finish in the bottom 30% of local races.  … Continue reading
