Eating Healthy at Walt Disney World Resort

When you think of eating at Walt Disney World Resort, the first things that come to mind are probably Mickey Ice Cream Bars, Mickey Pancakes, eight inch tall cupcakes and lots of fried treats.

EHD1But there are a lot of healthy choices too, if you know where to look.  Over the last year, I’ve been trying to find healthier options and I wanted to share my favorites with you.

EHWDWCoverOne of my quick service favorites in Magic Kingdom is Liberty Square Market, near the Haunted Mansion.

IMG_8317They have healthy snacks like fruits and we’ve put together meals several times with the fresh roasted corn on the cob (they grill it right behind the counter in the husk), baked potatoes and soup.

EHWDW1EHWDW3In Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I decided to give the ABC Commissary a try.  While they do have a large selection of fried foods and cupcakes, I decided to give the salmon and couscous a try.  I wasn’t sure about getting fish at a quick service restaurant but I’m happy to report that it was delicious!  It also came with broccoli which I gave to my mom (yes, I’m a veggie-phobe).  I chopped up the salmon and mixed it in with the couscous and the flavor combo was really great.

We’re heading back for a couple of more trips in the next month and I’ll keep scoping out the healthy options.  I hope to have a sequel to this soon with Epcot and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

What is your favorite place to get a healthy meal or snack at Walt Disney World?

I’m linking up with John at run.geek.run(Disney) today.  Make sure to stop by and enjoy more Disney magic in your Monday!

  1. Great post. There are so many delicious things to eat, but also healthy things too. Every easy to over indulge.

I’m having a hard time thinking of explicitly where are the healthy things I get. I know Cosmic Rays in Tomorrowland does rotisserie chicken. EPCOT there are just options all over the place. Frankly, my belly just keeps saying “fish and chips” which doesn’t fit this post very well, haha. There’s always sushi in Japan or also at the Poly.

    • I love the rotisserie chicken at Cosmic Rays (I only left it out of this post because the last two times I got it, I ate it all before I remembered to try to get a picture!!). It’s quick and tasty! I found it easy to make good choices at Epcot during Food & Wine actually. Lots of lean meat options!

    • The fruit stands are great and are really convenient for a quick snack!

    • I think they’ve really improved the vegetarian options in the last five years or so!

    • My biggest challenge is that I go to Disney so often that if I splurge on every trip I’ll gain weight instead of losing it! I think I’ve decided that I’ll save my splurges for my Thanksgiving week Disney trip and that all other trips need to be treat-free!

  2. There are only a few treats at Disney that I have a hard time resisting…Mickey ice cream bars, Mickey hot pretzels and the Mickey cake pops are pretty good. I’ve recently fallen in love with Flo’s V-8 Cafe. They have a roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetable meal on their menu that is amazing. I mean, there’s probably a fair amount of butter in it, but that’s better than some of the alternatives around there.

    • Cosmic Ray’s has a similar meal that is really tasty and quick! My favorite treats are chocolate and reeses pieces covered rice crispy treats, the seafood mac & cheese at Columbia Harbor House and all cupcakes. I’m just “saying no” at the moment!

  3. This is great info. It’s not always easy to make good food choices with so many temptations available, but it makes it easier when you know where to go to find them!

    • Thanks! I’m trying to explore the options while I’m there since I go so often that eating treats on every trip isn’t helping my waistline!

    • Definitely! It’s much better now than it was a decade ago when it seemed like quick service was all hamburgers, chicken nuggets and french fries! I was shocked at how good that QS salmon was!

    • I’ve never eaten there! I do love the rotisserie chicken at Cosmic Ray’s but I didn’t include it in this post because I ate it all before I remembered I wanted to take a photo. I’m a terrible food blogger! 😉

  4. Sunshine Seasons at Epcot blew me away! Beet, goat cheese, and spinach salad – yum! Sushi! Pumpkin soup! Wow…just, wow.
