Epcot Flower & Garden Festival: Urban Farm Eats

Some of the main draws of Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Festival are the topiaries staged throughout the park and the food booths.  Those two alone would certainly be enough to warrant a trip, but there are some other fun features of the festival that you shouldn’t miss. EpcotUrbanFarmEatsThe specialty gardens are both beautiful and educational.  I especially enjoyed the Urban Farm Eats exhibit.  I’m a want-to-be-organic-gardener who is often foiled by bugs (especially those tricky snails!) and plant diseases.  Every spring I start off all excited and start with either seeds or seedlings and they grow for a while and I get a few zucchini or green beans and then bam, bugs!  I love that this exhibit showed a lot of different options for kitchen gardens in non-traditional spaces.

Each display gave instructions to try it at your own home and showed examples of what it looks like when it’s successful.  This was for a hay bale garden.

IMG_0537 IMG_0538Even things like aquaponics, which seem a bit intimidating, look approachable when you see them laid out in person.

IMG_0531 I loved these alternative uses of colanders!

IMG_0540They even had a chicken coop display.  My mom raised chickens for a while and I have to admit that I’m getting the desire to get a few for our backyard.

IMG_0533 IMG_0532I just loved this whole exhibit.  The combination of gorgeous plants combined with practical how-to advice resulted in a memorable display that I really enjoyed exploring for a long time.  And it gave me some great inspiration for some spring plantings!

    • Thanks! It was great to see them in person. It inspired me to try something new with my garden this spring!

  1. That is so neat! I’d love to get to explore all of that (and would be taking tons of notes for our garden at home!). I’ve never done the Flower and Garden festival but we may have to add it to our list.
