Friday Five: Five Races to Run in 2015

It’s Friday again and I’m happy to link up with Cynthia at You Signed Up for What, Mar at Mar on the Run and Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC.  Today’s topic is five races to run in 2015.

5races2015Here are the five top races I’m most excited about running this year!

paynes-prairie-preserve1. Trail of Payne 10k – I’m excited and scared of this one because I’ve never run it and it looks like a really crazy trail run based on the description and the times from prior year finishers.  This is a really fast town and those finish times are not fast so the course must be tough!  I need to track down some race recaps (harder than you’d think for these local races!) to get prepared.  And I know Paynes Prairie has bison, horses and gators, so I hope I don’t run into any of those along the way!

2014BiltmoreGrounds12. Asheville Half Marathon – OK, I’m terrified of this one but if I survive it I think it will be one of those races I remember forever.  I love the Smoky Mountains and I love the Biltmore (especially the grounds) and this race looks to be challenging and gorgeous and really special (maybe not the hills though…or the temperatures).  I’m also working the BondiBand booth for the first time at this race which is also scary and exciting at the same time.

783974-1009-0020s3.  Wine & Dine Half Marathon – This is my favorite runDisney race so far.  I keep hearing rumors that the Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights is going to be moved due to construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and I really hope that if that’s the case they find a way to have the race course still go through them because that is my absolutely favorite part of the race.  The course itself is wonderful, with the last half being off the highway in the parks or on the BoardWalk.  And it’s the best after party that runDisney offers, with booths from the Food & Wine Festival offering great tastings all night long.

SCHM144.  Space Coast Half Marathon – I’m so excited that I’m already registered for my third running of this race.  And because it’s my third year of the five year series, I’ll earn a bonus medal this year.

5.  A new runDisney race – I’m not sure if there will be one, or if it will even be at Walt Disney World Resort, but with the announcement that the Tower of Terror Ten Miler won’t be happening this year I’m hoping that we’ll hear something soon about something to replace it.  A villains race?  A Star Wars race?  A Pixar race?  I’m good with any of them!  Fingers crossed that we get something fun this year!

What’s your #1 race this year that you are most excited about and why?

    • Hoping your PT and return goes well and you can fill that race calendar up! 🙂

    • Paris! So exciting! I love to travel overseas, but I still get so stressed about races that I’m not sure I want to add that stress to the stress of travel. Maybe one day!

  1. I would love it if rD came up with a Pixar race. It’d have to go through MGM right? Maybe it could be like the retired Minnie 15k which followed most of the second half of the marathon course.

  2. I love the Ashville/Smoky Mountains area and have visited several times. I would really like that half but it probably is hilly for sure. But, it’s got to be beautiful. Do you get to actually run on the Biltmore property?

    • Yep, the whole race is on the Biltmore grounds which is what sold me on racing it!

    • I’m definitely running Wine & Dine again, but I’m not sure about any other runDisney races.

    • I’ve got my EVERYTHING crossed for good weather! I literally have no idea how to run if it’s below freezing or if it snows!

    • I love the Biltmore grounds and I can’t wait to get to race on them!

    • I’m hoping it’s not TOO hilly (yes I live in Florida so I’m a baby about hills)!

  3. I think the Space Coast Half sounds like such a fun race. You always seem to have a good experience there, and the medals are the best! I would love to get to do that one day.
I would also love to do the Running for the Bay half in Appalachicola (sp?) and one of the Gulf Coast races around Pensacola, Blue Mountain Beach, Seaside, etc.

    • It is a great race! The Pensacola area is gorgeous, I really should look into some races there!

  4. I am so excited to hear about Asheville! I passed the Biltmore en route to Gatlinburg, but we didn’t get the chance to stop and I still regret it.

I’m excited about Space Coast. That’s my annual A race, so I always get pumped for it. I am also stoked for RNR Virginia Beach. A whole new race company and a whole new place. It’s going to be great!

    • Space Coast is my very favorite race so far! Somehow it fits my training schedule perfectly and the weather has been great the last two years. I’ll be excited to read about your experience at RNR Virginia Beach. I really need to do a RNR race SOON!
