Kanapaha Botanical Gardens

Continuing on with my local adventures series, today I’m sharing photos of Kanapaha Botanical Gardens.  This a a wonderful Gainesville treasure which is about a 20 minute drive from my house. We try to keep annual passes so we can just stop by whenever the weather looks great and we want to spend some time outdoors. IMG_3363There are a number of themed gardens to wander through.   The bamboo garden is one of my favorites.

IMG_3364I love the bottle tree.

IMG_3371 IMG_3372And the herb garden with gazing ball.

IMG_3374 IMG_3384I love this vine/branch thing for photos.  Here’s one of my elusive older son along with Eli. IMG_3328The children’s garden has some fun features for kids to explore.  Eli loves watching the koi and the waterfalls.  I love all the whimsical features like the windchimes and hidden (and not so hidden) dragons.

IMG_3283Another Eli favorite is the little maze/labyrinth.  It’s only ankle high so it’s not very challenging and there are no dead ends, it’s more of a meditation path.  Eli uses it as a race course.  It’s so cute when a handful of kids are racing each other through the labyrinth. IMG_3256Fun bridges are scattered around the grounds.

And just gorgeous things to explore around every corner.

But the very best thing is the moonlight walk they do once a year where they have live music and food vendors and line the walkways with luminaries.  It’s beautiful and such a fun night!

IMG_3224It’s a gorgeous botanical garden and a nice, low-key adventure right in our hometown.  Do you have any favorite local adventure?

  1. This Botanical Garden looks so fun! My kids would enjoy it, too. Our favorite local adventure is the Marinelife Rescue Center in Loggerhead. A place for injured sea turtles. The medical staff treats the turtles until they are ready to go back into the Ocean. My kids love watching all the turtles in the tanks!
