Friday Five: Five Race Day Surprises (and how to deal with them)

Five Race Day Surprises is today’s topic for the Friday Five with Cynthia at You Signed Up for What, Mar at Mar on the Run and Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC.  I’m sharing five not-so-fun surprises that you may be faced with on race day and how to deal with (or prevent) them. 1. Rain, rain, rain.  Sometimes it will rain or pour on race day and you can complain about it all you … Continue reading

Kanapaha Botanical Gardens

Continuing on with my local adventures series, today I’m sharing photos of Kanapaha Botanical Gardens.  This a a wonderful Gainesville treasure which is about a 20 minute drive from my house. We try to keep annual passes so we can just stop by whenever the weather looks great and we want to spend some time outdoors. There are a number of themed gardens to wander through.   The bamboo garden is one of my favorites. I … Continue reading

TotR: Core Strength for Runners

Tuesdays on the Run with Patty from My No-Guilt Life, Erika from MCM Mama Runs and I is all about core strength for runners.  It’s amazing how important a strong core is to help you run strong and injury-free. First of all, what are the “core” muscles?  Typically people think of core strength as six-pack abs and thousands of crunches or planks.  Here’s what core strength really involves: Abdominal muscles – the rectus abdominis (six … Continue reading

Beaches & Cream Soda Shop

One of our favorite restaurants at a Walt Disney World resort (outside of the parks) is Beaches & Cream Soda Shop.  It’s located right by Stormalong Bay at the Beach & Yacht Club and while it’s casual and not very expensive, advance dining reservations are definitely a good idea if you don’t want to wait several hours for a table. One reason that it’s hard to get a table without a dining reservation is that … Continue reading

Friday Five: Favorite Summer Drinks

Favorite summer drinks is today’s topic for the Friday Five with Cynthia at You Signed Up for What, Mar at Mar on the Run and Courtney at Eat Pray Run DC.  What a fun topic!  I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with and maybe find a new favorite treat! 1.  Blackberry Vodka.  Ok, I haven’t actually tried it yet, but a few weeks ago we went blackberry picking and I found a … Continue reading

Blue Springs

Continuing my local adventure series, today I’m sharing photos of the worst kept secret in this area, Blue Springs.  We’re very lucky to have so many freshwater springs in the area and they’re all worth visiting.  Blue Springs is my favorite though.  Here’s why! All of our local springs have beautiful clear water (which is really cold – 72 degrees) and they are relatively free of slimey wildlife like snakes or gators because the water … Continue reading

Wordless Wednesday: Disney Nature

Today’s Wordless Wednesday linkup with Focused on the Magic, has the theme of “Disney Nature”.  While there are lots of animatronics at Walt Disney World, there’s still plenty of nature to be discovered!  Here are a few of my favorite Disney nature shots! Eli exploring at Fort Wilderness Campground and Cabins. A doe I saw on a run between Fort Wilderness and Wilderness Lodge. A bunny at Magic Kingdom (I wouldn’t mind being that bunny!). … Continue reading

TotR: Alternative Medicine for Runners

Tuesdays on the Run is here again!  Patty from My No-Guilt Life, Erika from MCM Mama Runs are exploring how alternative medicine can help runners!  I’ve tried three different alternative medicine treatments for my running to prevent and treat injuries, even those nagging little ones.  They all did help, but to different degrees. I get acupuncture at least once a month and I can attest that it does help.  I have been treated for some … Continue reading

Dinner at ‘Ohana

Every now and then you have to splurge on a really special experience and a dinner at ‘Ohana is definitely worth the trip.  The first challenge is to get a reservation!  If you haven’t booked six months in advance it can be tough to get one of these coveted spots.  My most successful technique has been to check for reservations the week before, especially 24-48 hours in advance.  I’ve gotten a great last-minute reservation with … Continue reading
