Today’s Tuesdays on the Run topic is near and dear to my heart…fall race schedules! I am good with summer for about six weeks and then I’m over it. Unfortunately I live in Florida, so we get about six months of summer. By August I’m actively plotting ways to move to Vermont (or maybe somewhere at high altitude) to get away from the heat and humidity. So imagining how wonderful my fall races will be is a welcome thought!
Fair warning, due to the aforementioned six-month summer, I don’t consider that it’s fall until Halloween! So here are my upcoming races:
October 17 – The Color Run Gainesville. I’m really looking forward to this one (see here for more) because I think it’s past due for me to have a completely just for fun celebration run!
November 7 – Wine & Dine Half. My favorite runDisney race so far and my third year running it (wow has it been that long already?!?!) Let’s hope for better weather this year! And that the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights is still on display along the race course.
November 29 – Space Coast Half. My favorite race ever and my third year running this one too. I’ll qualify for the first of two medals for the Big Bang Series since I was lucky enough to find this race the year they started the five year challenge. I’m looking for a PR at this one!
January 8 & 9 – WDW 10K & Half. I ran the 10K last year and loved it. I was lamenting wanting to run down Main Street USA again but not really wanting to run Princess and a friend reminded me that the WDW Half shares the same course. I’m also very excited because there will be a couple of Gainesville friends running this too!
January 15, 17 & 17 – Star Wars 5k & Rebel Challenge – I just finalized my registrations, flights and hotel reservations. I’m meeting my BFF there and we’re running the 5k together. We’re splurging on one night at the Grand Californian (that’s all I could afford!) and then moving to a Good Neighbor hotel for the rest of the trip.
So, how’s the training going, you may ask? It was right on track until the wisdom teeth removal recently. My oral surgeon said I’d be able to run again in a few days but that was not the case at all. It was a pretty tough procedure and I am still dealing with some (hopefully temporary!!) nerve damage related numbness and tingling but I hope to catch back up in a few weeks. I was using a pretty aggressive training plan, so I have some room to recover before racing season starts.
I’m really excited about this fall’s schedule because it has the best of my favorite races and quite a few new ones. Now to get costume planning!
