TotR: Favorite Race Signs

Settle down and enjoy today’s Tuesdays on the Run linkup with Patty from My No-Guilt Life, Erika from MCM Mama Runs and me as we (and our awesome linker-upers) discuss our favorite race and spectator signs from along the course.

racesignsWhether a race is easy or hard, fun or a miserable slog, a funny or inspiring (I love funny!) sign can really put a smile on my face and a little extra pep in my step.  I wish I had taken more photos of them along the way to share, but (although I’m definitely not fast) I’m usually past the sign and laughing before I even think about stopping to take a picture!

This one was from Gasparilla and I only managed to take it because we ran the same course on Saturday and Sunday, so when I saw it on Saturday and laughed I was able to plan ahead to be ready to take a picture when I got to the same spot the next day.

IMG_0270This is a permanent sign, but I got to see it during a race at the University of Florida and it made me happy!

IMG_2792I have NO other photos of race signs although I’ve seen a ton that I enjoyed at the time.  I really love the ones that have a drawing of a button and say “touch here for a speed boost” or something similar.  And I always laugh when I see the ones that play on “that’s what she said”.  Like “Keep going! Faster!” “That’s what she said!”.

I thought I’d share some other signs I appreciate seeing during a race.  I always get a rush of happiness when I see this one during the Wine & Dine Half Marathon!

IMG_7774And I am always pleased (and sometimes relieved!) when I see a sign for a real life restroom along the race course!

IMG_2210In every half marathon, this sign is always one of the most welcome sights!

IMG_1217And this is always the sign that makes me the most joyful in every race!

    • Honestly, even the mile 10 sign is usually a favorite for me in a half because I always know if I’ve made it that far that I’m going to finish!

    • Thanks! 🙂 Maybe you should start a trend with tennis and have friends bring match signs to your next game! 😉

    • Thanks! It was a good reminder to push it a little more!

    • Thanks! You know me, my mind works a little differently! 🙂

  3. I have a Pinterest page of race signs. Too bad I missed the boat on this subject! When I was with the American Stroke Association’s training program, the director would always be out on courses with a sign that said “Sweat is Sexy.” To this day, that’s my favorite.

    • There’s still time! That one reminds me of another funny one that says “Runners have Stamina! Call me!”.
